Week 1 Recap
In honor of the Week 1 performances, we’re bringing back one of (if not THE) best football GIFs of all time!
Standings
For like 3 years in a row, Week 1 has been a points-free affair. NOT THIS YEAR. This week we had ALL the points. I knew some teams were doing really well because instead of getting questions about scoring, some people (RYAN) were asking about why they couldn’t change their team avatar to something custom anymore. I know you like to find new and interesting ways to highlight flaming dumpsters, but give it a rest.
On the football side of things, we have to start by acknowledging the Team of the Week - JBeeZyn. JB got the W, most points of the week, sits atop the Power Rankings, cracked the top 25 most points of all time, his 49ers smacked the Rams around in Australia, and he’s got a pretty well-balanced roster.
Whatever…well Dan Lanning is still chubby.
Back to the subject of winners - this week belonged to the Running Backs. Both Derrick Henry and JahGibbs scored over 40 points, and K-9 almost got there. Since Kenneth Walker III is a former Seahawk and his 173 yards + 2 TD being the only thing standing between Jon and a second football embarassment in two weeks, he gets the Player of the Week nod. Jon…Jon, you know you lost that game.
Across the league, the matchups were a little bit wacky, with only a few interesting contests. Shannon and Samantha projected close and DID NOT end that way. Morgan and Erik had an old-school matchup, with neither team really having a ton of success. Despite Davante Adams not knowing having a clue about what time zone he was in, her team played hero ball. This is more than I can say for Erik’s team, where the most exciting thing was the probably Dole Whip he was eating before kickoff.
The weekend really belonged to the matchup between Megan and Blythe. The Seahawks getting 3 INTs, Brock Purdy out to a speedy start, and Gibbs pulling off a Super Mario Star Mode performance - as long as you ignored the WTF AJ Brown and Tyjae Spears still has a job?! moments on her roster, this was shaping up to be a close one.
Between Lamar back to his even-year-MVP candidate ways, Bijan being the recipient of the Falcons starting a grocery bagger at QB, the Saints going to OT, and the Bears putting up a basketball score - not even Cardi B’s baby daddy could have saved Blythe’s fantasy performance. The craziest part? This all happened in the 10am games and we had no white wine in the house.
On the subject of EN FUEGO, not a lot going on. The only real candidate here is Shannon, who didn’t need any help getting the W. I don’t know whether I’m more surprised that her bench was projected to score that many points or that they actually did. If your team kinda sucked this week, Shannon’s bench is where you want to shop.
