Week 7 Recap
Standings
The theme of this week was fight night. With the exception of Samantha, who totally cruised to a W against Blythe; and Shannon, who let Ryan hang around before slamming the door shut on Sunday Night Football, every matchup was a brawl.
Based on power rankings, the top three teams are clear, then Megan in 4th, with Morgan and Blythe yo-yoing around, hoping to steal a win. The rest of us are basically just hanging around, stockpiling players in the hopes of getting a good seed to fend off DFL.
As for the matchups, let’s put them in context, shall we?
Erik vs JB
This was the heavyweight fight of the weekend. Erik’s team sprinted to the lead with a stellar performance from Drake Maye and a triple-threat of Puka, Drake London knocking out the 49ers, and Trey McBride being a target funnel. JB countered with Caleb Williams, King Crayon Eater, and Kenny Gainwell in an absolute beatdown of the Panthers.
JB had one punch left: JSN. It was a season high for him, but it wasn’t enough.
All JB needed was for his kicker to not miss a PAT and he would have had it. That might be the fantasy equivalent of getting your ear bitten off - especially it was HIS real-life team that took the L. No knockout, unanimous decision.
Tuesday vs Morgan
Mayweather vs Pacquiao comes to mind. Not the same weight class of team as JB vs Erik, but definitely went the distance, this time all the way to MNF.
Shough had a rough time in Paris, missing his projection by about two points. But the RBs came to play, Defense was trash, and kicking game was fine. Tuesday’s entire team, prior to MNF had 35 points. If you remember anything about how Mayweather fights, he just spams punches at the end to score points. That’s basically what happened here. Dak + CD, over and over with a little bit of the TEs Morgan had us all vote on.
In the end, it was JUST enough to get the W. Morgan really just needed her QB to play to his potential and somebody (anybody) to catch 1 ball. At least we got our money’s worth from that PPV.
Jon vs Megan
This one was closer to Ali v Foreman. Megan came in with the better record, the better projection, better power rankings, and better team (on paper, per the experts). Jon’s team didn’t do anything special all weekend. The killer was his RB running up the score on Megan’s defense. Megan threw everything she had at Jon. Despite K9 having a bad game, it wasn’t as bad as Mahomes, who was seeing more ghosts than Hailey Joel Osment. Shaheed tweaking his knee while JB got points out of JSN was also just some bad luck. It just wasn’t enough. She ended Sunday trailing by about two points and then Jon got the knockout on MNF. Literally anyone on her bench would have been a W.
Chris vs Julian
This was a Jake Paul fight. Pick any one, but probably the one where he went running for the corner because his opponent actually showed up. Julian’s a-hole of a kicker even missed a field goal at halftime and had a guy score 0 and it still wasn’t particularly close. Meanwhile, Chris’ team had 60 points on the bench, which was almost more than he scored - clearly his team is Jake Paul in this scenario. This game was a crime against fantasy football.
